The House on the Hill

I have a dream home. I have envisioned this home in my mind for so long, that I sometimes I can feel it. I wish to share that dream with you.

Imagine driving up a smoothly winding road, with bright green grass and fields full of cows speckling the way. Then, suddenly, behind a hill, is a large stone wall. You can see huge oaks all lined up in a row behind the wall, and between the leaves, sparkles a lovely shade of pink.

Turning into a long brick driveway, you see the oaks are a set of two...like soldiers on guard; forming a tunnel of shade. The driveway is fringed with small posies. In the distance is a purple flowering tree and a lemon tree. A set of garden gnomes dot the landscape, appearing to be diligently working under the oaks. Near the end of the driveway, which forks after the end of the soldier oaks, is a hammock that would be lovely for reading a book. After the forked driveway, a sweet set of five stairs leads up to the sweetest house you've ever seen.

The house, a victorian style home with plenty of gingerbread decoration, is pink and white with a soft grey pitched roof. The front porch, with two big rocking chairs is a great place for drinking lemonade, while watching the birds flutter around the windchimes and bird houses hanging off the roof. The front door, in a dainty sea foam green, is arched at a wide angle. The home is reminiscent of a picture from a beloved children's book.

With so much whimsy, it is hard to grasp every detail in one glance. A fat little buddah statue greets you with a silly smile. Upon entrance, a spiral staircase leads to the bedrooms. In the foyer is a huge compass rose pattern set into the bamboo floor. On your right is a large family room, with a big fire place and a carpet that looks like pebbles. Big floor pillows decieve; they appear to be rocks from a quarry. On your left is a dining room, with a long table and six chairs. A big chandelier that looks like sea urchin made of blown glass hangs elegantly over the table.

Following into the direction of the dining room, you see a grand open kitchen that is set up a little higher than the rest of the first floor. The cabinets are white, with a crackle finish that reveals a pink background. On a large island, is many decorative cake stands with all sorts of scrumptious treats under domed glass. The appliances (the refrigerator, the gas stove, the dish washer, and all the countertop appliances) are in a lovely hue of robin's egg blue. The countertop is white, with a turquoise and pink boomerang pattern. A pot rack above the island displays varying sized pots and pans that are glazed in a range of blues. The curtains hanging in the large picture window above the sink, is patterned with cupcakes. You can see the backyard from the kitchen window.

Leading to the backyard are two big french doors, and it is easy to see the many charms of this almost secret garden. A human-sized chess board is just off the back porch. Three huge trees guard the back of the lot, and watch as you spy a large buried buddha head peeking up out of the ground. A small wooden bridge at the back of the lot makes a path over a large koi pond. Fairy houses, made of twig and moss, hang in the trees, as well as a swing. Even more impressive, is the number of Morraccan lanterns that hang from sheppard's hooks around the lawn. Many gazing orbs lay in the grass. A couch, seemingly sculpted out of a pile of dirt and grass, faces the chess board. An old bathtub has been repurposed to a flowerbed, and a birdbath made from an old pedistal sink.

Anyway, obviously, I have a lot of ideas, and that is just barely scratching the surface! My dream home is a place that is beautiful, whimiscal, and ecclectic. Just like me!
